A Practical Guide to The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) for Public Opinion Research
November 19 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm| $20 – $30
The Pacific Chapter of American Association for Public Opinion Research (PAPOR) and the Southern California Insights Association are proud to present the following webinar:
CCPA – A Practical Guide:
The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), a complex set of consumer privacy rights is set to go into effect January 1, 2020. This act reaches far beyond just companies based in California, impacting most companies that do research in the United States.
This session will be targeted towards public opinion researchers, market researchers, and members of market research departments both for-profit and non-profit companies. It will move quickly beyond the “Who, What and Why” so we can jump in to a practical session about the “How”. In particular we are going to focus on two key components of the CCPA – Security and Privacy.
Dr. Stan Stahl will focus on helping understand the important question “What must I do meet the CCPA’s requirement that businesses implement ‘reasonable security measures’”. This includes working with your clients, your research partners, and your IT partners to ensure you are responsible guardians of information. Stan is president of SecureTheVillage, a non-profit community-based response to the cybercrime and privacy crisis. Through actionable education and community organizing, SecureTheVillage turns people and organizations into cyber guardians.
It is important to understand that security is not privacy and privacy is not security. To complement the discussion on security Stuart Pardau (outside counsel for Insights Association) will tackle the privacy aspect of CCPA. Stuart will lead a discussion focusing on implications to your company policies, procedures, and agreements as they relate to the information you collect, analyze, and manage.
CCPA empowers consumers with a set of rights that are important to understand and support by all companies performing research not only in California but at the national level. Although a state level law impacting California, it is seen by many as a bellwether of state and federal laws.
Our goal is for you to leave this session with an understanding of the CCPA along with practical next steps for your journey to CCPA Compliance.
