The Financial Services Cybersecurity Roundtable is a cross-organizational, cross-functional “learning community” committed to working together to better protect our community from bank fraud, credit card theft, identity theft and other forms of cyber crime.

Title: LA District Attorney Business Email Compromise Case Study
Topic: Be Among the First to See the LA District Attorney’s Office Case Study on a Business Email Compromise that was successfully completed and resulted in a recent prosecution. Warren Kato will cover the crime, investigation, and prosecution, as well as some tips on how it could have been prevented.
Presenter: Warren Kato, Deputy District Attorney
Biography: Warren Kato has been a Deputy District Attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for 18 years. He has successfully prosecuted a wide range of crimes that include cyber-crimes for the Cyber Crime Division, gang murders for the Hardcore Gang Division, and sex crimes for the Sexual Assault Unit. For the past eight years, Warren has been assigned to the Cyber Crime Division where he specializes in prosecuting complex cyber-based identity theft and fraud cases. Warren also currently leads the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Community Cyber Investigation Response Team (Community CIRT). His team combats cyber-crimes committed against Los Angeles County businesses by utilizing a proactive approach that incorporates prevention, education, investigation, and prosecution. Warren is the recipient of numerous awards and commendations, including the IAFCI 2015 United States Prosecutor of the Year Award and the California Lawyer Magazine 2007 Criminal Law Attorney of the Year Award.
