May Discussion Topic:
Digital Forensics: What we find versus what we’d like to find: Closing the discrepancy.

Discussion Leader:
Joe Greenfield, PhD, Assoc. Professor, USC; President, Maryman
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/josephgreenfield/

About Joe:
Dr. Joe Greenfield is a private cyber forensics investigator and Associate Professor at the University of Southern California for the Information Technology Program, part of the Viterbi School of Engineering. During his tenure, he created two academic minors (Applied Computer Security and Computer and Digital Forensics), one new specialization (Digital Forensics), as well as created or helped create 10 new security and forensics courses. In his forensic practice, Dr. Greenfield analyzes large complex systems for evidence in cybercrime. He has presented his research to the Los Angeles Electronic Crimes Task Force and the Information System Security Association.

About the discussion:
Digital forensics plays a critical role in investigating cybercrime by uncovering and analyzing data from electronic devices to identify evidence of criminal activity. Dr. Greenfield will lead a discussion exploring the challenges in digital investigations: the types of data commonly recovered, the absence of key forensic data, what this means to the investigation, and the gap between what investigators can uncover versus what is ideally needed.

The SecureTheVillage Cybersecurity Connect Discussion Forum is NOT a webinar. It is an interactive gathering, and a place to connect, challenge assumptions, and gain fresh perspectives in a trusted, no-pressure environment, where cybersecurity professionals, IT leaders, attorneys, risk managers, educators, investors, and law enforcement come together to discuss challenges, exchange ideas, and strengthen our collective defenses.

What to Expect:
Engaged Discussions – No lectures, no passive listening. This is a place for real conversations.
Valuable Connections – Meet professionals who are driving cybersecurity initiatives in Southern California and across the country.
Actionable Insights – Hear real-world experiences, discuss strategies, and walk away with ideas you can apply.

Chatham House Rules:
Open discussion, candid insights, and trust in the room.
