October Discussion Leader: Stan Stahl, Founder of SecureTheVillage, Fast Company Executive Board Member and Contributing Columnist (https://www.linkedin.com/in/stanstahl/)
October Discussion Topic: How little security is too little? What’s the least you can do while still claiming to have “reasonable security practices.” What’s the floor, below which you do not have “reasonable security practices.”
About the discussion: Let’s be honest. Brutally honest. No one likes all the things we have to do to be cybersecure. It’s an intrusion on our time. It lowers productivity. It costs money. Since we can never be 100% secure anyway, it’s only rational to ask, “what’s the least I need to do to get by?” We will discuss this question in our October discussion group.
Context
Contractual obligations
Emerging legal requirements for reasonable security
Your own self-interest
Tactics
Top down: frameworks, strategic principles, key strategic indicators
Bottom up: MFA, awareness training, patching, …
Plan to walk away with a deeper understanding of “reasonable security” along with practical steps you can take to make sure you’re meeting this minimum threshold.
